About DivIt and these guides

DivIt helps groups turn shared bills into a clear record of who owes what. Scan a receipt, check the items, assign shares, and send a link that guests can open without a DivIt account. Collections bring related expenses together for a trip or household.

DivIt is published by Kraken Inc. These guides are written from the product's perspective: we make DivIt, and we also explain methods you can use with a calculator or spreadsheet. They are not independent reviews of DivIt.

Use the guides without an account

The restaurant guide includes an itemized split calculator that allocates tax and tip proportionally. The trip guide includes an equal-share settlement calculator. Both explain their assumptions and work with example amounts before you enter anything.

The calculators run in the page. They do not send your entries to DivIt or save them for later. Reloading clears your changes. The guides remain readable without JavaScript; interactive calculation requires it.

How to read the examples

People, receipts, and amounts in worked examples are illustrative. Currency examples use a stated sample rate, not a live quote. Rounding follows whole cents, and any remaining cent must be assigned so the individual shares match the bill.

Roommate allocations and travel cost rules are agreements for a group to choose, not universal definitions of fairness. Payment-provider fees and availability can change; the payment guide links to the providers' own guidance and the final transfer screen should be checked before sending.

Corrections and product feedback

For a guide correction, open DivIt on the web or in the mobile app and use its feedback option. Include the guide address, the sentence or example that needs correction, and what you expected. Avoid including a private payment or share link when reporting a general article issue.

For help using the app, start with the user manual. If a shared bill is incorrect, contact the organizer: they know the original expense and can correct the record.

Advertising and payments

Pages that display third-party ads label those placements as advertisements. An advertisement is separate from the guide's explanation and from DivIt's payment controls. DivIt does not hold the money transferred through Venmo, Cash App, PayPal, or Zelle.
